Hello Earthling!
Welcome to my brain dump, my passion project, my outlet for both the explore-the-world dreams we all share and the save-the-world in all of us. I'm so glad you're coming along on this journey and I have so much I want to share with you! - but first let me introduce myself.
You might have noticed by now I LOVE beaches. This is my home beach in Indian Rocks, Florida. Sorry LA, your beaches just can’t compete.
I'm Siena.
I was born and raised in sunny Florida and grew up obsessed with animals and marine biology. (Any of my Florida peeps out there who can make baby alligator noises on command?? I seriously weirded out some of my coworkers with that skill.)
I also grew up drag racing with my family, which turned into a passion for mechanical engineering that led me to get my bachelor's degree from MIT in 2018. I'm now working at a rocket company based in LA (where people think our rockets are UFOs).
On the side I am an EXPERT on all things Harry Potter, I have a borderline unhealthy obsession with succulents, and I'm that mom who bores her friends gushing about her kids . . . except that I have kittens and fish. My kittens (oh my god they’re one year old and I can’t technically call them kittens anymore!) came to us as tiny little nugget foster kittens and never left - now they’re quirky, cuddly, bug-eating, nose-kissing adventure cats with their own Instagram @we.lick.noses (shameless plug). And my fishies have quite the personalities too! Of course I absolutely gush to you about in their very own feature blog post. They’re saltwater fishies and live in a coral reef tank, which my boyfriend obsesses over day in and day out.
This blog is probably going to be a hodgepodge of all of the things I love, but all with one main theme:
Making your life count - both for you and for the planet.
I have a few dreams of what this blog could turn into -
a top-notch resource and community helping busy, tired, practical adults make eco-friendly living easy
a place to explore and share how we transform ourselves into powerhouses in our careers and lives
but in the end its purpose is to help myself and others find fulfillment, confidence, and ways to make an impact in a world where it’s easy to feel powerless.
And I feel like we're all in the same boat - trying to figure out how to be
mentally healthy
financially responsible
physically fit
well-rested
eco-friendly
well-traveled
grounded
adults
.....and that's just hard.
So let's start a community here interested in living life to the fullest, in exploring the world, in being pro-nature warriors in our own homes, in DIYing, and in appreciating and advocating for our own self-worth.
They say blogs should be focused on a topic, but I refuse to limit myself to just one passion and I hope you won't let your curiosity be limited in the topics we explore.
That said, now that I've drafted some ideas for posts you can expect us to dive into a few main topics:
Green Living
Making your life and mine a net positive for Nature. What's actually happening with the environment right now? What do the next 50 years look like for the planet and everyone on it? How SOL is my home state in a few years with rising water levels? What can you and I do right now to help the future look brighter?
Career
Owning your role in the workplace. How do we set ourselves up to have a stellar job interview? How do we keep performing at the high level we expect of ourselves? And how, HOW do we break through the glass ceilings, walls, and bubbles that hold us back?
Personal/Lifestyle
Living life as a functional human being. All of the random tidbits and life lessons that a 24-year-old borderline-workaholic is learning about living a healthy and full life. From travel tips to meditation experiments, from what happens when you flood the succulents you're propagating to finding ways to unlock your full potential via nutrition and building healthy habits.
At the top of your page you'll find links to each of these topics. I have so many ideas for posts that I truly believe can impact your life and mine for the better, so check back in often for the latest!
I'm so excited you're here.
